Winstead assisted in the development of The Independent, one of Austin’s most iconic skyline additions, representing Aspen Heights during the process. From the initial stages of development and sales to the preparation of condominium documents and even encompassing marketing and administrative services, Winstead provided comprehensive legal guidance. With its unique staggered design that earned it the nickname “Jenga Tower,” this building represents a significant evolution in the city’s architectural landscape.

Designed by Rhode Partners, The Independent embodies Austin’s vibrant and daring spirit. Its structure breaks the mold of conventional residential towers, captivating the global architectural community and earning the prestigious 2017 Design Award from the American Architecture Prize.

Completed in 2019, this 685-foot tower houses 383 residential units within 950,000 square feet, all situated on 1.7 acres of prime downtown real estate. The Independent redefines luxury living with an array of amenities, including an infinity-edge pool overlooking Lady Bird Lake, a state-of-the-art fitness center cantilevered over the tower’s edge, and a dedicated yoga and barre studio with an accompanying deck.
